Fibromyalgia is a clinical
syndrome characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain along with symptoms
involving different systems such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, and irritable
colon syndrome. It is a musculoskeletal disease, the pathophysiological
mechanism of which is not yet fully known. 90% of fibromyalgia patients are
women and the disease is common between the ages of 25-55.
Various risk factors including environmental
factors, physical and emotional traumas, sensitivity in perception of pain,
problems in the nervous system, hormonal irregularities, vitamin and mineral
deficiencies, rheumatic diseases, sleep disorder, heavy workload, inactivity,
perfectionism, meticulousness, and having a moody personality may trigger the
disease.
Symptoms and signs such as chronic pain, sleep disturbances, dizziness,
anxiety, depression, memory-vision-jaw joint problems, muscle weakness, joint
stiffness, burning in the urinary tract and frequent urination, painful
menstruation, chest pain, nausea, skin complaints, dry mouth, constipation,
diarrhea, excessive sweating, and hypersensitivity on the scapula may be seen.
In summary; fibromyalgia is a basket of problems and is prone to be confused
with other diseases. Since there is no objective test for fibromyalgia, its
diagnosis is difficult and its treatment is done with a multidisciplinary approach.
It is a disease that requires effective patient-physician cooperation and
patience.
Combined treatments should be performed for the
purposes of strengthening the autonomic nervous system and intestinal flora,
lifestyle changes, regulation of nutrition, treatment of heavy metal
accumulation, replacement of missing vitamins and minerals, and recovery of the
patient from mechanical stress.
To prevent fibromyalgia, avoid
the factors that trigger the disease (stress and activities that cause extreme
fatigue). Maintain your sleep pattern. Do not consume cola, coffee and tea
before going to sleep. Make sure to go to sleep at the same time and wake up at
the same time. Face the issues that have become a serious problem for you.
If you have long-standing pain
and you feel tired, consult a specialist doctor. Fight fibromyalgia with the
support of your doctor, not alone.
Our physicians are always with
you.
Healthy days.
