Insulin secreted from the pancreas acts as a key for the sugar in food taken with meals to enter the cell and be used as energy. Sugar, which cannot enter the cell as a result of the absence or ineffectiveness of insulin, begins to rise in the blood. As blood sugar rises, sugar is excreted in the urine. This problem is caused by the inability to produce enough insulin or use it efficiently.
