Diabetes threatens our health as
widely as an epidemic. The age at which diabetes is seen is decreasing and its
incidence is increasing in the world. The World Health Organization emphasizes
that diabetes will be one of the most common diseases of the future. According
to studies, 13.7% of people over the age of 20 in our country have diabetes.
Insulin secreted from the pancreas acts as a key for the sugar in food
taken with meals to enter the cell and be used as energy. Sugar, which cannot
enter the cell as a result of the absence or ineffectiveness of insulin, begins
to rise in the blood. As blood sugar rises, sugar is excreted in the urine.
This problem is caused by the inability to produce enough insulin or use it
efficiently.
Diabetes can negatively affect all system functions in the body. The
kidneys, eyes, peripheral nerves, heart and brain are the most commonly
affected organs. It can cause venous occlusion in the leg veins. Because it is
a threat to all organs where the vein is located.
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes are excessive thirst, frequent urination,
and weight loss despite eating a lot. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes are weakness,
loss of appetite, itching, bad taste in the mouth and skin sores. Diabetic
patients should have their health check-ups every year, even if they do not
have any complaints after diagnosis. Diabetes should be kept under control.
More importantly, in order not to have diabetes, it is necessary to eat
a healthy and balanced diet, walk and exercise, and stay away from stress.
