Are you feeling very tired? Do you find it difficult to get out of bed and start a new day? Or does your hair stay on your hands after a bath? Then you may have anemia problem.

Anemia is the condition in which the hemoglobin value measured in the complete blood count is below the normal reference values. Normal blood valuesmay vary according to gender and age. Roughly, a hemoglobin value of less than 13 grams in an adult male and less than 12 grams in an adult female makes the diagnosis of anemia.

The most common cause of anemia in the world is iron deficiency. Iron deficiency anemia usually manifests itself with fatigue, weakness, pale skin, hair loss, broken nails, palpitations and shortness of breath. In addition, irritability, depression, headache, menstrual irregularities in women, increased risk of falls and dementia in the elderly, and psychomotor developmental retardation in children can be seen. While the symptoms are milder in the early stages, the symptoms become more pronounced as the severity of the anemia increases.

Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency, especially in growing children and women, is an important public health problem. Regardless of the presence of complaints, it should be treated. In men and menopausal women, the cause of iron deficiency should be investigated and revealed. Because sometimes the underlying cause may be the presence of tumors in the stomach and intestines.
